阿尔弗雷德·马歇尔(Alfred Marshall,1842~1924),近代英国著名的经济学家,现代经济学之父。马歇尔出生于伦敦郊区的一个工人家庭,后就读于剑桥大学,曾在剑桥大学、牛津大学任教。马歇尔致力于经济学的教学与研究,其经济学说的核心是均衡价格论。剑桥大学在他的影响下建立了世界上第一个经济学系。代表著作主要有《经济学原理》《公民权与社会阶级》。
《经济学原理》是英国经济学家马歇尔的经济学名著。马歇尔是剑桥学派或称“新古典经济学”的创始人。他的理论可以说是20世纪前25年西方经济学的源头,许多新的理论都是由对马歇尔思想的扩展或争辩而产生的。《经济学原理》一书被称为西方政治经济学发展史上的里程碑。它引用时间因素作为分析要素,成功地把边际效用论、供求论、边际生产力论、生产费用论等融合在一起,构成一种完整的经济学体系。马歇尔以“自然界没有飞跃”这句格言作为本书的题词,以说明“连续性原理”,即经济现象之间与经济概念之间都存在连续的关系,不能有严格的区分。本书体现的价值论和分配论至今仍是西方微观经济学的基础。
